Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
When a name or record number is entered into a search tool, the query is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. That provider processes the request and supplies its response. Lee County Court Docket does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you send an email, the message may be retained so a response can be provided. It is kept within the organization and is not shared outside it unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers may receive technical information connected with the visit, including:
- The IP address associated with the device
- The browser and browser version in use
- The device type and operating system
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The referring site, when one is available
- Dates and times of page views
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They may be used with analytics services to understand traffic patterns and page performance. Browser settings can block cookies, although certain parts of the website may not function in the same way after cookies are disabled.
What We Do With This Data
Technical and communication information may be used for the following operational purposes:
- Operating and maintaining the website
- Routing a search request to the applicable partner service
- Understanding which pages and features are used
- Diagnosing performance or security issues
- Delivering advertising that may be based on visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Lee County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case records. The website offers general routing information about records held by the Lee County Clerk of Superior Court, Superior Court, District Court, and the North Carolina eCourts Portal. The Clerk, rather than this private website, is the local source for the official trial-court file and certified copies. The North Carolina Court of Appeals maintains a separate appellate record path for its own matters.
This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or into records about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Search boxes may be supplied by independent companies. Information entered into one of those tools is handled under the provider’s own privacy policy, not this policy. Each provider sets its own retention and sharing practices, which Lee County Court Docket does not control. Review the provider’s policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
The website links to court and clerk resources, including the North Carolina eCourts Portal, as well as other services. Following a link leaves this website, and the other organization’s privacy policy governs that visit. Read its policy before giving that organization personal information.
Some advertising providers may collect information about activity across websites to deliver interest-based advertising. That activity is conducted through their systems, not through the Lee County Clerk of Superior Court or the North Carolina court system.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be handled by the following categories of recipients:
- Search partners that process a submitted query
- Analytics providers used to measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that serve advertisements on the website
- Law-enforcement or government entities when a valid legal order requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to safeguard the information collected. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, however, and this policy does not promise that an unauthorized access event will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If information from a minor is believed to have been provided, contact the organization so the issue can be addressed.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may give you rights concerning personal information held by a private website. You may request access to information held about you, correction of inaccurate information, deletion of information, or an opt-out from certain processing where the law provides that right. North Carolina’s court-record access rules are separate: G.S. 7A-109 addresses access to clerk-maintained court records, while G.S. 132-6.2 addresses practical public-copy requests. Neither statute makes this private website the custodian of a Lee court file.
- Ask for a copy of personal information held about you
- Request correction of information that is inaccurate
- Request deletion of applicable information
- Request an opt-out from certain processing when available
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear on this page with an updated effective date.
